THE North-west branch of the Transport and General Workers' Union has cancelled its annual Agricultural Conference in light of the foot and mouth crisis.

The conference was due to take place at the T&G's regional head office in Salford on March 17th and was to have been attended by workers representatives from a range of food, farming and retailing organisations.

Conference producer and T&G regional organiser said: "We really felt we had no choice but to cancel our conference in the light of movement restrictions. It is of course, a great shame that we have had to take this step but I am equally sure all the delegates will understand the position.

This is an annual conference which draws worker representatives from the food and agriculture industries from plough to plate. It is a very useful working conference and I very much hope we will be able to fix another date in the near future."
