A FREE pre-bookable refuse collection service is to be introduced in Bury from April 1.
It will be for bulky domestic waste with up to six items being collected at any one time. The scheme will replace the popular but limited service provided through Operation Springclean and will do away with the old pre-booked and chargeable service which formally operated for the removal of larger items.
And the council is ending the confusion about Bank Holiday bin collections by announcing that bins and the newly-introduced white waste paper bags will be collected only from Tuesday to Friday. Bury's environment chairman, Cllr Wayne Campbell, said: "The Bank Holiday Monday collections have been the cause of difficulties now for too many years and we feel we have finally solved that problem.
"Likewise bulk waste collections have needed to be tackled and we believe our new free service will immediately be a big hit with residents."
