PASSENGERS flying out from Manchester Airport today were having meat sandwiches and chocolates taken off them because of the foot and mouth crisis.

All meat and dairy products are banned from being taken abroad following a directive from the Ministry of Agriculture.

An airport spokesman said: "Passengers travelling abroad are not allowed to travel with any meat or dairy products including chocolate.

"We have a notice in our duty free shops advising passengers that they are not allowed to buy chocolates."

The only exclusion is powdered milk for babies.
