IN reply to John Swanson's letter about the New Bury Estate.
If he had taken the time and trouble on his visit back to New Bury from Canada, I am sure he would have found that not all the people in New Bury have untidy gardens and homes, and yes, some of the residents do know what a sweeping brush is. My mother, who worked all her life -- the last 23 years at work as a home help -- used many brushes.
I was brought up in New Bury and, like Mr Swanson, saw it as a nice place. I visit my mother, who incidentally has lived in the same house for over 50 years, and where she lives there are no untidy gardens or houses, and the properties are well kept and these people have had their 'act together' for a long time.
So, Mr Swanson, on your next visit I suggest you look all round New Bury and I know that you will find plenty of sweeping brushes still being used, both inside and out.
