WE are glad that Bolton shopowner Alan Fairclough has agreed to think again about quitting the area after his Tonge Moor Road premises were repeatedly targeted by thieves and vandals.
He was considering leaving Bolton because of his negative experiences, but agreed to meet with Tonge Councillor Frank White, community safety officer Richard White and business security adviser Vincent Glover to find a way forward.
The council will now work with Mr Fairclough on security at the shop, and there may be grants on offer to help him, and other local traders.
It would be very sad if businessmen like Mr Fairclough were driven out. Tonge Moor Road has always had thriving shops, well patronised by local people.
It would be a shame to lose them, and we trust that ways can be found to give the local traders justified confidence, and beat the vandals.
