Bury youngster Chris Armstrong shows the style which has impressed a number of clubs. IF anyone wants to snatch Bury's new sensation Chris Armstrong then they'll have to pay a hefty fee.

That's the good news after the 18-year-old put pen to paper on a new long-term contract yesterday which commits him to Gigg Lane for at least two years.

Shakers fans will be delighted because the talented left-back - who only made his first team debut in January - is already being chased by a number of clubs after making a sparkling impression in Bury's first team.

And manager Andy Preece is also pleased to have a quality player commit himself to the club.

"It's good news," agreed Preece. "He's signed a long term deal because he wants to stay and carry on enjoying his football.

"He's still finding his feet but he feels he can improve by staying here.

"He's been getting a lot of attention in the press but it's not affecting him at all. He's a sensible level-headed lad and he can only get better."

Preece was also delighted that classy defender Nicky Hill has signed an extension to his contract. Midfielder Jason Jarrett has yet to sign the new deal offered to him but the club are hopeful that he will.

With Armstrong and Hill's immediate futures sorted, the Shakers can concentrate on extending their five-match unbeaten run at home to relegation-threatened Swansea City tomorrow.

Confidence is high and the manager is looking for a similar performance to the one which saw off bottom of the league Oxford in convincing fashion a fortnight ago.

"Everybody's buzzing at the moment," admitted Preece. "It's a big game for us and a tricky one again because Swansea are down there and fighting for every point. We will have to be careful at the start because they will come at us, especially after losing in the last minute during the week."

Hammering

Tomorrow's encounter is the first of two home games in four days. On Tuesday evening top of the league Millwall visit Gigg Lane. Three points would be very welcome and sweet revenge for the Shakers' 4-0 hammering at the New Den earlier in the season.

"The lads won't need motivating, that's for sure," added Preece. "It will be a real test of character but we were slightly unlucky up at their place. That defeat started our bad run so it would be nice to get revenge for that."

Young defender Danny Swailes won't be fit for either game. He has been told not to do any training for a further two weeks after a scan revealed that his ankle is still badly injured.
