FIREFIGHTERS say arsonists were responsible for a blaze in an empty council house.
Officers from Farnworth were called to the boarded up property in Withall Avenue, Little Hulton, at 9pm last night.
Station officer Alan Peake said the fire had been started in the porch area and had spread to timber around the front.
"We have had a spate of calls to these properties in recent weeks," he said. "It seems that once the council boards them up people go in and set fire to them."
The brigade were forced to remove part of the roof from the property to prevent the fire from spreading and they were at the scene for more than an hour.
