TIM Street played for almost the entire game at Warrington with a fractured thumb.

He will now miss the next six to eight weeks of Leigh's NFP campaign.

The popular Hilton Park prop suffered the injury in the fourth minute scuffle which led to Street and Wolves front rower Danny Nutley being sin-binned.

"At first he thought Timmy thought he'd only bruised his thumb, but on Monday we found there was a fracture there," says head coach Paul Terzis.

"Of course it's a blow for us and for Timmy who says this is his last season. He'll miss some important games that are coming up on the horizon but if you look at it from the other side of the coin we'll have a fully fit and refreshed player coming back for the crucial matches in the final third of the season."

Street's untimely injury will open the door for the likes of Andy Leathem and Jamie Gass to press their claims for more game time in the senior side. Gass, in fact, will be in the 17 for this Sunday's trip to struggling York.

Street joins co-skipper Andy Fairclough on the long-term casualty list but there is better news of Paul Norman (dislocated finger) and Kieron Purtill (shoulder). Purtill is on the bench on Sunday.

Dave Bradbury, who had his nose broken at Warrington, won't miss any games because of the injury but Adam Bristow will be stood down this week to ensure he's fully recovered from concussion. Alan Hadcroft and John Hamilton are rested.

Terzis sent a copy of the Warrington match video to the Rugby League for their observations on several incidents that went on during the game.

"The referee has reported that Street was the aggressor in the sin-binning incident, yet the tape clearly shows Nutley striking first. Martin Massella hit Chris Morley with two sweet punches and wasn't sin-binned; Nikau hit Bristow with a leading elbow and there was another flying elbow that almost took Dave Whittle's head off."

"And all that's without even commenting on the alleged spear tackle of Morley," Terzis points out.
