RANGERS visited Heysham on Saturday and started well with the forwards running hard and punching holes in the home defence.

Jamie Smith and John Barker showed up well and Mark Lowe was in on everything. The ball was passed out quickly along the backs for wingman Ian Fishwick to run in for the opening try -- but no conversion.

More good work followed when quick handling broke the cover for centre Paul Dootson to take the final pass to go in for Rangers' second try. But Heysham remained positive and pulled two points back with a penalty.

In the second half, robust play by Heysham had Rangers picking up some injuries and the team had to be re-arranged.

Carl Parker at half-back was spraying out the passes and Mark Lowe was still running the ball in well. Hooker Phil Moss shot through from a scrum close in to dummy his way over for a try -- goaled by Groom.

Now Heysham through a series of penalties were pressing the Rangers' line and were camped there for 20 minutes when they finally broke Rangers' line to score and kick the goal.

Heysham were again pressing on Rangers' line, but forward Eddie Alty, who was having a good game, broke out to rave three quarters the length of the field to pass on to wingman Brian McNamara to score the final try in the corner to make the final score 8-18.

Man of the match was Mark Lowe followed by John Barker and Jamie Smith.

Next week Heysham are again the opponents, but this time at Adlington.

Rangers A drew with Langworthy Reds 14-14.
