Adlington RANGERS 8

SPOTLAND 12

ADLINGTON Rangers played Spotland away on Saturday on a tough pitch and took an early lead with a Nick Groom penalty goal. But after injuries to Dave Brooks and Lee Rogers, Spotland scored a converted try.

Then right on half-time a serious injury to Rangers' Paul Cookson resulted to a hospital visit via ambulance leaving the score six points to two points at the break. Dave Brooks rejoined the fray in the second half, but against the run of play Spotland scored and their try was converted to make the score 12-2.

With 20 minutes remaining Paul Doolson had to leave the field with a facial wound. This left the team with only twelve men. Rangers threw everything at the Spotland defence in the last five minutes after scoring a penalty try, but couldn't find a gap.

The game ended, Spotland 12 Rangers eight points. This was a rare loss to the team but for the team to play with only twelve men in the last twenty minutes in the most atrocious conditions but finishing looking the better of the two teams shows it has plenty of heart.

Man of the match Mark Lowe followed by Martin Rogers and Phil Moss.

Rangers A team played at Widnes Ball on Saturday and after four weeks without a match it really showed. Even though they had some new young players in this was a poor performance all round with weak tackling and not backing up any breaks made.

The final score Widnes Ball 36 - Adlington Rangers A 12 points. Man of the match Neil Talbot followed by Tommy Allan and Terry Meadows. Next week the A team are away to table toppers Standish with the first team at home to Haresfinch.
