REGARDING the Fred Shawcross column in the Bolton Evening News.
Since the column began, I have tried reading it on several occasions, but after the first few paragraphs I have to give up. The style of writing makes me lose interest.
After reading the letter from 'name and address supplied' concerning Fred's column, I actually managed to read Fred's reply from start to finish. This was mainly because I was amazed that the Evening News had allowed him to use two columns to rage at this person for daring to criticise his writing.
Again his style came across as sarcastic and pompous, instead of the dry wit for which he was aiming. He seems rather full of his own importance.
I have no particular dislike for anything that Fred writes about, it is topical, but let's get some quality back into the Evening News. Consign this column to the tabloid newspapers where it belongs.
