THE Redwaters Cup competition produced excitement galore.

In the one remaining Round One tie goals from Mark Broli (2), Ian McKinnon, Chris Mulcahy and David Bullough saw Britannia to a 5-1 victory over Church Inn, Wayne Woods replying.

Half a dozen Round Two ties were completed with Higher Fold yet again looking to be the team that everyone else has to fear as they stormed past Courts A by a 7-1 margin. Mick Blakely led the way with a hat-trick.

The game between Hag Fold and Horns Inn was a cracker. Aidan Lavery put the visitors in front on four minutes. Ten minutes into the second half John Clarke scored two in as many minutes giving Hag Fold the edge.

The last seven minutes produced three goals with Paul Walker levelling on 83 and Andy Tipping making it 3-2 for Horns with four minutes left. Still Hag Fold bounced back with John Battersby making it 3-3 in the 89th minute. Extra time failed to produce more goals and Atherton won 7-6 on penalties.

Two other games went to extra time with Atherton C&N eventually 5-3 victors over higher division Moonraker and Courts B going through 6-3 at home to Sir Charles Napier. Division Two Atherton Royals did well at Division One outfit Limelight before Steve Roberts scored for the home team and Nigel Cooper got two more in the last five minutes for a 3-0 win. Howe Bridge Mills also produced a giantkilling act with a 3-2 home win over Union Arms.

In Division One Royal Oak became the first team his term to overtake champions Higher Fold at the top with a 4-0 win at Leigh Avenue with goals from France (2), Burton and Fishwick.
