Tyldesley 39 Burnage 5 TYLDESLEY made it a sweet sixteenth successive win on Saturday with a comprehensive 39-5 victory over a spirited Burnage side who withstood a first half onslaught before succumbing to the consistent pressure play that has become Tyldesley's hallmark this season.

Tyldesley made the early progress up the field and with a couple of Burnage players straying off-side the penalty was awarded and Eddie Wallbank converted with ease. The Burnage defensive line which featured former professionals Martin Burkett, Ian Blease and John Gilfillan repelled the Tyldesley attack successfully and a swift counter-attack brought Burnage a penalty attempt of their own which went unconverted.

The visitors also had another two attempts at goal in a five minute period but the lone range efforts bought nought in return. Tyldesley showed some nice touches by driving the ball deep into the Burnage half and a stray pass under pressure saw Tyldesley centre Andy Dickinson intercept for a easy try which Wallbank converted to give Tyldesley a 10-0 half time lead.

The second half was all one way with the now tired Burnage defence beginning to leave gaps which where exploited to the full by Tyldesley.

Tries soon followed from Wallbank after good work by winger Steve Palin and left wing Gary Corbet who raced in from 40 metres out. Another interception saw Dickinson in for his second try and Full back Mark Swanton who ran hard all day was rewarded with a try.

Stand-off Wallbank added another two conversions and Tyldesley went into the final five minutes with a 39-0 lead, however Burnage made good use of the ball near the Tyldesley line and they crashed over for a consolation try.

Next Sunday Tyldesley make the trip to Manchester for their big cup game which kicks off at 2.15pm. There is a coach leaving Well Street at 12.15pm and anyone wishing to reserve a seat need to contact the Club on Tuesday night after 8.30pm on 01942 882967 all support is welcomed.
