FIRE brigade adviser Keith Laird was due to hand over cheques worth £5,000 to two charities today.
Mr Laird, who was allegedly spoofed by funnyman Peter Kay, was presenting the cash to the National Fire Safety Charity for Children and the Fire Service Benevolent Fund at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.
He had earlier complained to Channel 4 over Mr Kay's portrayal of blundering fireman Keith Lard in an episode of "Phoenix Nights".
The television station compensated him in a package worth £10,000 despite Mr Kay's insistence his spoof character was not based on Mr Laird.
