I REMEMBER reading in the Citizen that Chorley Borough Council, with the help of the county council, were intending to prosecute motorists who caused unnecessary pollution by leaving their engines running while being stationary.

I am questioning their intentions when they alone are the main instigators in the causing of thousands of vehicles a day having to do that on their daily journey into and out of Chorley along Moor Road and Pall Mall.

I know they will say we are going to get a new link road. Big problem -- that will only exasperate the already serious bottlenecks at the Tesco roundabout, the Euxton village A49 roundabout and the A6 roundabout at the hospital.

We, in Coppull, will have further problems getting to and form Chorley when the new link roads starts to be built. I can imagine all traffic being diverted down the narrow Birkacre Road whilst the new roundabout and flyover are built.

There is another addition to the future picture, two new housing estates being built in Coppull of around 150 houses.

The statisticians say we have 2.5 cars per household, that would mean another 300 cars plus on Moor Road and Pall Mall daily from Coppull which, added to the extra vehicles that will generate from the enormous estate being built at Eaves Green, must reach 1,000 extra plus cars. All these problems arising out of the stupidity of traffic calming and the greed of the building fraternity or poor planning by our local council.

Then to cap it all, the news that North West Water are intending to re-pipe the whole of Pall Mall and Moor Road with a new main. I can envisage what that will mean to motorists over the next 12 months, a total gridlock.

I would like to give Coppull residents a tip, it is quicker to get to Bolton or Wigan to do your shopping and it's cheaper too (if you take into consideration the cost of fuel wasted on your journey into Chorley).
