CONSERVATIVE environmental spokesman Damian Green is right when he says we should be offering a helping hand to rural businesses because they are often the heartbeat of our local communities.
Rural post offices and small shops are in a crisis. Sub-post offices are closing at the disgraceful rate of more than one a day.
What Conservatives understand, but Tony Blair still ignores, is that, if we want a living, working countryside that is not a playground or dormitory, we need to preserve these essential services.
