ON November 23 I printed a photograph of Bullock Street, and it brought back many happy memories, writes Mrs Eleanore Cunningham (nee Nellie Valentine), "not just of the street, but the school on the end on Folds Road.

"I walked the street twice a day for three years from Tonge Fold on my way to and from school, Folds Road Girls' Central School, in the early 1930s.

"It was a happy period in the lives of many of our school friends. Our teachers were excellent and included Miss Pilling, Miss Isherwood, Miss Smith, the Misses M. and B. Gould, Miss Rothwell, Miss Knight, Miss Entwistle, Miss Brindle, and Miss Gillett and Miss Roberts who were headmistresses.

Mrs Cunningham, of Hardy Mill Road, Harwood, continues: "Two years ago several of the 'old girls' met up, and we have enjoyed many pleasant meals together, and a holiday in the Cotswolds. Some of these 'girls' were: Joan Waring, Kathleen Southworth, Edna Cross, Margery Rogers, Irene Bolton, Marie Carter, Margery Sims, Irene Parr, Kathleen Walsh, Ruth Greenhalgh, Peggy Ryce, Irene Bridge, Dorothy Lee, and myself.

"If any other 'old girls' would like to join us, please ring me on Bolton 527214."
