I am sure that this class photograph at St George the Martyr School, Bolton, taken in 1953, will bring back memories to many. But that is not the main reason for printing it; on the left at the back is Mrs Amy Holehouse, who was a teacher then headmistress at the school, retiring in 1956, and her granddaughter, Mrs Cathryn Halliwell, would like to know what her grandma was like as a teacher.
Mrs Holehouse died four years ago, aged 97. She had lived in Deane all her life until 1965, when she moved to Bury to be near her family.
Mrs Halliwell tells me: "I am compiling a history of her teaching days as part of my family tree, and would like to hear from anyone who remembers her or was in her class, what she was like as a teacher, or any other memories of her."
Mrs Holehouse also taught as a supply teacher at the Haugh Board Council School, St. Michael's, Great Lever, and Mount St Joseph's, Deane.
If anyone can help, you can contact Mrs Halliwell at 34, Hastings Road, Heaton, Bolton (Tel. 842882).
