Turton Tigers of the U16s Premier look like they have clinched this year's title.

Last Friday they played Breightmet Allstars who were on the same points, but had a far better goal difference to Turton.

This was not to deter Andy King's Tigers, as their class in attack proved too much for the Allstars' defence as they won the game 5-3. This now puts the Tigers three points clear, with only one game left.

Many people think the Long Shots of the Monday Second are called so due to their chances of winning the title, but manager Craig Bannister uses it to give teams a false impression. This week they met Shamrock who had a certain Mr Meyers in the team, he is currently leading our player of the season with four out of five votes.

Both teams went into the game with 100 per cent records, so one or both could drop a couple of points.

The game was going towards a draw for long periods of the game with neither side willing to give an inch. This was eventually to Long Shots liking, as they scored with a superb long distance effort to clinch the game 8-7, now Shamrock's keeper knows why they are really called The Long Shots.

Real Drunkards of the Wednesday Fifth almost sprang the surprise of the season so far when they played High Spec. High Spec went in to the game with a 100 per cent winning record, while Real Drunkards couldn't win a thing.

High Spec soon had the stuffing knocked out of them when Real flew into a two goal lead. They kept this lead for most of the game, only to be outdone by some clever play from High Spec who eventually won the game 7-5. Later High Spec player Rob Bottomley said that if Real played like that every week they could be soon up there challenging with the best.

The player of the season awards are now beginning to take shape. Many players are now pestering the refs to give them man of the match, so they can see themselves on our notice boards. The current table is as follows:

J Meyers (Monday), Mark Hughes (Tuesday) 4; Dave Warburton (Wednesday), Gaz Holden (Thursday) Lee Harrison (Tuesday), P Holt (Wednesday), Paul Kay (Thursday), Tony McCormick (Monday), Wes Gallagher (Tuesday), Izudin Zecievic (Tuesday) 3.
