Lostock played the top team in their division and came away beaten but not downhearted.

Lytham, who are really Fylde's development side, have been put in this division when in reality they are a couple of leagues higher.

This has shown in their results this season when they have regularly put 60 or 70 points past teams. To come away with only 31 points against is a tribute to Lostock's never-say-die attitude this season.

Indeed before Lytham scored their first try the visitors were the better side for the first 15 minutes.

One line out in particular saw the Lostock forwards drive the home men back 20 yards before the maul collapsed five yards short of the home line.

The way the first Lytham try came was a big disappointment to the visitors. Lytham were awarded a line out on half way and surprised Lostock by taking a quick throw and counter attacking. The ball went through to their centre who exposed unusual bad tackling from Lostock to beat four men to score under the posts.

Converted

From more than holding their own, Lostock then lost their way somewhat and conceded three quick penalties that Lytham converted to go 16 points ahead. Against quality opposition it was never going to be easy to get back into the game, but Lostock kept plugging away to keep themselves in touch with the hosts.

After regrouping at half time Lostock got off to the worst possible start by giving away a penalty right in front of the posts straight from the restart.

Things didn't improve much when Lytham scored their second try soon after. At this point Lostock just couldn't win any ball and Lytham showed their class once again to score their last points of the game with a well worked try under the posts.

After not having had the ball for the majority of the first 20 minutes of the half, Lostock could have been on the end of a real hiding but they lifted themselves and took the game back to the hosts.

Although they never really looked like scoring, Lostock made life difficult for Lytham and prevented them from adding any further score with some sterling defence and some aggressive rucking.

In the end Lostock came away disappointed but have seen the level they must try to attain. Bolton and other teams in the division above should be prepared for some hard fixtures next season against this quality Lytham side.

Lostock are again on league duty at the weekend and entertain the second placed team in the league Thornton Cleveleys at the old British Aerospace ground. All supporters and new players are warmly welcome.
