DETECTIVES, hunting thugs who left a young Bury man fighting for his life, were due to appeal for more help today.

Carl Kingston was found unconscious with serious head injuries in Huxley Avenue, Cheetham Hill, after being subjected to a savage attack.

The 20-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition at Hope Hospital's neuro-surgery unit, 12 days after the attack.

Today senior police officers leading the hunt for Carl's attackers were preparing to renew their plea for information which could help catch his attackers.

Det Supt Keith Jardine and Det Insp Rebekah Sutcliffe were scheduled to go before the press and media this morning at a specially arranged conference in Collyhurst police station, Manchester.

The police plea comes days after Carl's distraught parents Veronica and Nick made their own heartfelt appeal for anyone with information about the attack to contact the authorities.

Nick, who runs a building company in Bury, said: "We just want to know what happened so those responsible can be found.

"One minute my son was going for a haircut and the next he was attacked.

"I think Carl may have known who did this as it seems there was some sort of discussion before he was attacked. It makes no sense. There is a cloud hanging over us at the moment." Carl, of Hollins Lane, Bury, was set upon on the afternoon of December 2.

Police said that witnesses told of a desperate chase in the Cheetham Hill area, prior to Carl being discovered unconscious in the street with head and facial injuries.

Police are also continuing their appeal for information about a white car, with a damaged windscreen and side windows, which was seen in the area and may be connected with the assault. Anyone with information is asked to contact Collyhurst CID on 856 3940.
