TAKE your dog to the 'chippy' is the message from Bolton Council.
Christmas pudding is not on the menu, but Bolton's dogs will be treated to chips at two special identity days organised by the council and the National Canine Defence League.
The chips won't pile pounds on the pooch as they are of the hi-tech identification kind and not the edible variety.
All dog owners have to do is visit the bright yellow NCDL mobile unit with their canine pal get their pet implanted with a microchip for £5.
Anyone on means-tested benefit will get their dog identi-chipped free of charge, courtesy of the NCDL.
The initiative is part of Bolton's pioneering microchipping and voluntary Dog Register project, run jointly by Environmental Health's Dog Control Unit and the Destitute Animal Shelter, based in Northolt Drive.
Cllr Guy Harkin, executive member for the environment said: "The council is keen to promote the positive aspects of responsible dog ownership.
"The steady and significant reduction in the number of stray dogs in our borough is a good indication that we are going in the right direction.
The chip shops, open from 10am to 4pm, will be at Morrisons Supermarket, Chorley Old Road, Bolton, on Monday and Farnworth Precinct, Brackley Street, Farnworth, on Tuesday.
