ABOUT 20 employers from Tonge and Burnden discussed staff development at a breakfast seminar hosted by the Burnden Park Rover Group.

They are participating in an Employee Development Scheme which is a pilot project run by Bolton and Bury Chamber with support from the Single Regeneration Budget.

The innovative scheme encourages staff members to take up learning in any area they wish with a view to developing their potential and motivation.

Mr Dennis O'Halloran of Rover explained at the event how six employees had taken the opportunity to pursue new learning opportunities which ranged from motorcycle training to computing.

Other participating companies include Mikar Ltd, Michaeljohn Training, Johnson Security, Taylor Brothers, Kirkby Central, Integrated Dental Holdings, Prontaprint, River Street Glass, Elle Hair and Beauty, AXA Insurance and The Vanliners.

The Tonge and Burnden SRB4 area stretches from Hall i'th'Wood in the north to Green Lane in the south.
