ASTLEY and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway wrapped up the season with some creditable performances in the Northern Indoor Individual Championships at Salford.
Martin Phillips maintained his excellent form from the British Championships to take second place in the U-19 event. He won four of his five races, losing only to the winner, Scotia's Alan Mackie, in the first race. Damien Hack, with 15 points, and Russ Holland, with 14, finished joint fourth and joint sixth.
Next event was the Veterans category, and Mike Hack secured second place.
In the U-16 event, Damien Hack was forced to compete on borrowed bikes, after damaging his in the U-19 event. Under the circumstances, third place behind the Bury pair of Ben Scranage and Rob Pearce was a creditable showing.
The Senior event concluded the day, with Phillips once again in excellent form, with three wins and a second. Unfortunately, a fall first time out when challenging the eventual winner, Heckmondwike's Darren Kent, cost him a certain top three placing. A & T's other entrants, Mike Hack and Damien Hack, finished with 11 and eight points respectively.
