HORWICH juniors produced magnificent performances in the first fixture of the GM Girl's Sportshall League at Manchester's Dome Leisure Centre.

The Under 11's Team finished third after Melissa Howarth and Lucy Hindley got the team off to a flying start reaching the final of the 1 Lap race and finishing 4th and 6th respectively. Lucy was also fifth in the 3 lap time trial.

In the standing long jump, Sarah Beesley competed well to finish 4th while in the 'B' string event, Howarth was secnd, with 1.70m. In the Vertical Jump, 'A' string, Beesley recorded a fine 3rd place.

Throughout the course of the day other superb performances were recorded by Naomi Brownlow, Lianne Fisher, Stephanie Roberts, Jenny Dorgan, Holly Anderton and Hannah Merna. To round the day off, the Under 11's 4x 2 Lap Relay Team of Hindley, Howarth, Beesley and Roberts finished in third.

In the Under 13s competition, sprint stars Sarah Stephens and Joanne Swindells finished 1st and third respectively in the four Lap Trials while Stephens also reached the 2 lap final.

In the 6 Lap Time Trial, newcomer, Hannah Wardman produced a strong run to finish 3rd overall

In the Field events, Stephens won a very competitive Standing Long Jump while team mate Phillipa Molloy was a close second in the 'B' with Swindells and Molloy among the points in the shot, both finishing 4th. In the Vertical Jump, Laura Claughan was 5th in the 'A' string and Wardman, also 5th in the 'B' string event. In the Standing Triple Jump, Hayley Coop,was 5th in the 'A' string, supported by Wardman, also 5th. The team finished in third place overall.

The under 15's girls who were the stars on the day, finishing first

Loretta Barnett, a late replacement in the 2 Lap race, reached the final and finished 4th but Loretta came into her own in the 4 Lap Time Trial, with a convincing win, well supported by Sara Cottam, 2nd overall

In the 6 Lap Time Trial, Vicky Harold was second and in the Shot it was a double first for Janine Mullineaux and Vicky Harold, with Mullineaux recording a PB of 8.76m, and Harold, a best of 8.42m.
