As a boy he received instruction at Chapel Royal,
And when eight, could play every brass band instrument.
Later, when 20, as an organist, to God was loyal,
In composing 'Onward Christian Soldiers' with good intent.
Composing the music for Savoy Operas did his name enhance,
Such as 'The Yeomen of the Guard', 'The Gondoliers',
'The Mikado', 'Patience' and 'The Pirates of Penzance',
Compositions which today still resound with cheers.
Sullivan's other works included 'The Lost Chord',
Also a vocal cantata, 'The Martyr of Antioch',
Plus 'The Light of the World' praising the Lord,
But, on November 22, at such talent, death did mock.
