An inquiry has been launched by the Racecourse Association into elements of the media rights bidding process that led to the current period of exclusive negotiations with Go Racing.

The inquiry has been triggered by allegations made by the solicitors acting for Towcester racecourse regarding alleged discussions between representatives of the Racecourse Holdings Trust and Carlton, the alternative bidder to Go Racing, for the racecourses' terrestrial and interactive television rights.

Mark Gay of Denton Wilde Sapte will carry out the initial fact-finding stage of the inquiry with the findings and recommendations being the responsibility of an independent QC.

The inquiry will start tomorrow and it is hoped it will report to the RCA board early next week.

However, it appears likely there will be a delay to the conclusion of the media rights deal between the RCA and Go Racing, which was due to be completed by December 15.
