COMPETITION winner Hazel Waddington has had her £16,000 BMW delivered, but will have to wait a while longer until she can get behind the wheel.

The 19-year-old from Farnworth, who won the X-reg in a Big Brother style radio contest, has not been able to sit in the driver's seat because insurance companies are giving her quotes of £3,500 a year, enough to buy a second hand car!

The pleasure of driving the dream machine has gone to Hazel's firefighter father Eric, who spent the weekend cruising around in the black 316 series.

Hazel said: "He's completely chuffed with it. He drove the car back from the garage and he was loving it. I was in the passenger seat and it is gorgeous. I'm planning to give my friends a spin soon.

"The insurance is to much at the moment, but we are going to wait until the new year before deciding what to do." Hazel, who went to Harper Green Secondary School, in Farnworth, is now settling back into work as an accommodation officer at the Bolton Institute after her four weeks in a purpose built house with her house mates.

The Survive to Drive competition was organised by regional radio station Rock FM. It was run in a similar way to the Channel Four Big Brother series, which catapulted the town's Nichola Holt to fame.

After surviving the eviction process, when listeners and viewers on the web-site voted out their least favourite member of the household, Hazel went on to win the final quiz and was awarded the keys by Craig from the original Big Brother.
