THERE was a reminder in the BEN recently of the damage done in Deane Churchyard this year.
I am 77. My mother, next year, will have been buried in Deane Churchyard for 50 years, and my father, next year, will have been buried there 45 years. About nine months ago, thieves stole the long stone slabs from each side of their grave.
My first wife's ashes have been buried in Deane Church Memorial Garden for 25 years next year. Last month thieves stole the paving stones from the paths in the garden.
I don't call them "thieves", I call them "grave robbers", and I hope they are haunted for the rest of their lives. All this for the new Millennium!
