BOLTON chaplain Judith Horrocks will be among the devoted staff at Christie Hospital to be introduced to the Prince of Wales on Friday.

Prince Charles will pay a visit to the Manchester cancer centre as part of a day-long trip to the city.

His visit starts in the morning when he will inspect the regeneration work following the 1996 IRA bomb blast.

Then he will meet the cast of Coronation Street at Granada Studios as part of the programme's 40th birthday celebrations.

In the afternoon, he arrives at Christie to see how the £25 million "Christie's against Cancer" appeal is benefiting patients.

A crucial part of the Christie team is chaplaincy co-ordinator Rev Judith Horrocks, from Deane. Judith was one of the first women priests to be ordained in the Diocese of Manchester and was appointed a Church of England chaplain at the hospital in 1995.

In July, she became the hospital's first full time chaplain and now has responsibility for a team of four people representing Christian traditions, the Jewish faith and links to other religions.

She is one of several people the Prince will be introduced to while he visits the hospital's recently completed Cancer Information Centre for patients and their families and the laboratories of the world famous Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, where scientists are finding new ways of fighting cancer.
