A CAMPAIGNING motorist is compiling a catalogue of crashes on one of Bolton's most notorious roads.

And Mr Barney Wharton-Jones is planning to show his damning dossier to the executive director of Blackburn Council in his bid to sue them over a well-known accident blackspot.

Mr Wharton-Jones has been inundated by callers supporting his bid to sue Blackburn Council.

As reported in the BEN, Mr Wharton-Jones, is considering forcing the council through the courts to repair a stretch of the A675 Belmont Road one mile out of Belmont village towards Bolton.

He wrote off his Toyota Celica last year after losing control during wet weather.

Fellow accident victims, who have also crashed on the road, have stepped forward with their details.

Andrea Ludlow, 25, rang Mr Wharton-Jones after she spun off the road as she travelled home from work on Sunday night.

Andrea, a nurse who lives in Astley Bridge, said: "It was raining and I was travelling at about 50 mph. As I was coming out of the bend, the car just lost control.

"It started spinning round and went across the other carriageway into a wall. I was very lucky that nothing was coming the other way."

An off-duty policeman witnessed the incident and stayed with the local woman until help arrived.

Andrea, who has taken time off work following the accident, escaped with just whiplash injuries.

She is now supporting Mr Wharton Jones's campaign.

Andrea said: "Something needs to be done. I travel it everyday and know it pretty well. If I had been travelling faster then I could have been seriously injured if not killed.

"I think there are lots of accidents there which go unreported. Blackburn Council just don't hear about them all." Mr Wharton-Jones said: "The response so far has been good. I have been given lots of information about that stretch of road.

"I am still seriously considering suing the council - not through financial gain, but because I want something done about this road.

"People's lives should not be put in danger."
