Adlington Rangers ARLFC 'A' 20 Widnes Bulldogs ARLFC 8

Despite dreadful conditions Adlington Rangers made the most of their chances to blast Widnes Bulldogs to defeat.

In the early stages of the match, both teams managed to play good rugby-- with defences cancelling each other out.

But Rangers finally scored when Bulldogs dropped the ball.

Rangers seized on the chance quickly and passed it out for winger Nick Groom to take the final pass, slip inside the full back and go over for classy try which was not converted.

Neil Talbot at full back was dealing with any long kicks with increasing confidence and from another good forward break Rangers scored a second try.

This time it was Carl Hough who sliced through the defence from close range, but again the try was not converted.

Bulldogs were now pressing and after being awarded a penalty they took a quick tap and were over for an try to make the score at the break 8-4.

In the second half, Bulldogs pressured Rangers and two mis-tackles later they were in again for another try to draw level.

This was a signal for the Bulldogs to go all out.

Rangers' defence was really stretched and twice timely interceptions by Groom and Roscoe saved certain tries.

Rangers' forwards kept driving upfield with Graham and Tonge showing up well.

Then with about 10 minutes remaining Rangers finally broke down the Bulldogs' defence to go in for two quick tries by forwards Mark Tonge and Carl Hough -- both converted by Dave Graham to make the final score 20-8. Both teams played well despite torrential rain and wind.

Man-of-the-match was Ray Roscoe.

This weekend Rangers' first team are at home to Heysham, and the 'A' team are away at Langworthy Reds.
