SHAKERS stars Darren Bullock and Matt Barrass will be out of action for at least another two weeks.

Bury boss Andy Preece is bitterly disappointed at the news because he is desperate to get both players back in the team.

Midfielder Bullock had been in splendid form, scoring goals for fun and playing so well that First Division Wimbledon are rumoured to be on the verge of making a bid for him.

But a torn thigh muscle at the end of last month has stopped him in his tracks and it is taking longer to heal than first thought. He attempted to make a comeback for the reserves on Wednesday but broke down and had to come off.

The same applies to right back Matt Barrass. Though he feels fine and can run, his knee injury has not sufficiently healed to risk playing a competitive match and so he too must be patient.

"It's a blow because I thought they would be back by now," admitted Preece.

"Darren in particular is desperate to start playing again but he realised on Wednesday that his leg was not quite ready. There is no point rushing things because it will only mean he will be out for longer.

"It is going to be another two to three weeks before either of them will be ready."

A realistic comeback target for the Bury duo is November 18 and the FA Cup first round. The Shakers have got a good draw, at home to non-league Northwich Vics.

Preece will expect to win and so will chairman Terry Robinson. A good cup run to generate decent money is vital in helping secure the club's short term future.
