Match Results:Wed 12th July (Cup S/Finals): Golborne 98-5 v Atherton 101-3 (Atherton won by 7 wkts), Walshaw 78-3 v Clifton 79-1 (Clifton won by 9 wkts). BOLTON Indian made a bright start to their home match against high flying Atherton- they scored steadily to amass 90-4 from their 20 over allocation with Dilesh(27) top scoring with an attractive innings. Athertons' Ian Pendlebury (3-17) bowled with fine control.

In response, the visitors had few problems in reaching their objective with Philip Williamson(50 ret) and Mathew Lilley(32no) leading the way to a comfortable victory.

In the Johnson Cup semi-final match at Golborne, the home side entertained Atherton and it was the visitors who secured a place in the final with a solid 7 wicket win.

Golborne reached 95-5 with Craig Ralph (40) and Mark Edelston (28) both batting with confidence - Anthony Williams (2-11) and Paul Walsh (2-13) being the pick of the Atherton attack.

The visitors reply was decisive and Philip Williamson (50 ret) and Paul Walsh (28) paved the way to victory despite some excellent bowling by Golbornes' Dale Tyrer who finished with 2-18.

Depleted side

In the other semi-final Clifton overcame the challenge of a somewhat depleted Walshaw team who were missing several key players for this vital encounter.

The home team batted first and totalled 78-3 thanks mainly to a terrific 48 not out from Daniel Hornby. In a contest where the batsmen stole the show, Cliftons' Gareth Cross (43no) and Andrew Griffiths (21no) eased their team through to a well deserved place in the final.

It is pleasing to report upon the continued fine batting performances of Athertons' Philip Williamson in this section's competitions. He has a staggering average of 144.5 from his seven innings to date - and an enforced retirement becomes effective upon reaching 50 runs.

Due to extended Cross Cup and Halliwell Shield competition matches, all the league programme, apart from Bolton Indian v Atherton, scheduled for Monday, July 10 will have to be re-arranged - the re-arranged match dates must be notified to the Results Secretary as soon as possible.

Fixtures: Mon July 24 (League) - Clifton v Darcy Lever, Daisy Hill v Astley & Tyldesley, Elton v Bolton Indian, Walshaw v Lostock.
