BOLTON Wanderers Ladies soccer team have received a major boost in their bid to make their mark in the North West scene.

The club has been awarded a £3,400 grant from the Millennium Festival Awards For All and now hope to transfer their good fortune off the field to better results on it.

It has been all change for Wanderers Ladies during the summer as they have switched their operations to the doorstep of their professional namesakes.

The club has moved its training headquarters to St Joseph's RC High School and Sports College at Horwich, just a few hundred yards from the male Wanderers' Reebok Stadium.

When the new league season begins in September, the junior teams playing in the Lancashire Girl's League, will be playing their home matches on the school fields there as well.

The open age team, winners of the Lancashire County Cup last season while still playing under the name of Bolton Ladies, will now be playing in the Premier Division of the North West Women's League, under the name of Bolton Wanderers, bringing them into line with the rest of the club.

From the start of the new season, they will also have a new home ground, playing their home matches on Sunday afternoons at the ground of Tempest United in Lostock.

Wanderers Ladies are optimistic that this all-round improvement in the facilities available to them will lead to further improvements in performance on the field.

Additions have also been made to the coaching staff for all the junior teams to further improve the foundations of the club which is looking ahead to the new season with confidence.

The club will have teams at Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16, playing in the Lancashire Girls League, as well as the open age team in the Premier Division of the North West Women's League.

Players of all ages are welcome to join the club. Any girls or women who are interested are welcome to attend training at St Joseph's on Tuesdays from 6pm onwards, or contact club secretary Neil Fairclough on 01204 383914.
