BOLTON firefighter Graham Smith was travelling to Romania this week to show firefighters how to use lifesaving equipment donated by local people.
Graham will be teaching his friend and fellow firefighter Costel Florea how to employ cutting gear.
As reported in the BEN, Costel recently visited Bolton to pick up more firefighting skills before returning to Barlad, Romania, with an armful of equipment including breathing apparatus.
Graham, from Bolton Central Fire Station, was awarded an MBE for his work helping Romanian communities.
He struck up a friendship with Costel while on a visit to Romania.
Costel revealed how his brother-in-law died tragically in a car crash in Romania after fire crews did not have the right cutting gear to get him out of the vehicle.
Costel's quest to fit out his local station with modern equipment touched many local people.
