A WESTHOUGHTON firm will create 100 new jobs in a major expansion plan.

The Bernstein Group Plc, which makes and supplies kitchens and bedrooms, currently employ more than 1,100 people at its factory on the Wingates industrial estate. With business booming, the firm is planning to build an extension to its 45-acre site and take on new staff to meet customer demand.

The company is one of the major employers in the Bolton area, and the Wingates site has been developed enormously since the company moved in with 150 workers in January, 1989.

The firm has taken on 100 new workers in the past 12 months and expects to do the same in the next year.

Mr Bill Leckie, director, said: "We have outgrown the space we have here at the moment."

Bolton's planning and highways councillors have granted permission for the extension, canopies, a car park and new access from Great Bank Road.
