THE MAN in charge of making children and adults throughout the country are up to speed with their English and maths has praised a trio of Bolton schools for their commitment to the cause.
Alan Wells, OBE, visited the three schools to award them a quality mark for making continuous improvements in literacy or numeracy.
The Director of the Basic Skills Agency called into Westhoughton primary, Alexandra Nursery and Claypool primary for special assemblies attended by governors and parents.
At Alexandra nursery, children cut a cake decorated with a Q to mark the occasion.
Westhoughton primary children described how the basics were taught in their grandparents day and Claypool pupils impressed the audience with their mathematical skills.
