LEIGH Centurions will have home advantage against Oldham in the Northern Ford Premiership final next week.

Oldham's 24-17 victory at Doncaster means Leigh will meet Oldham at Hilton Park.

Meanwhile, local MPs have backed Leigh's bid to join the Super League next year.

The town's MP Lawrence Cunliffe has put down a Commons motion calling on the Rugby Football League to re-examine the club's application to join the top flight.

The motion notes with "disappointment" the initial refusal of the bid at a Rugby Football League Council meeting.

Mr Cunliffe has the support of more than 30 MPs including Bolton North East David Crausby, Bolton South East Brian Iddon, Worsley's Terry Lewis and Chorley's Lindsay Hoyle.

The motion says: "We support the Leigh Centurions Rugby League Football Club in their application for a place in the Super League next year.

"We note with disappointment that this application was initially turned down at the Rugby Football League Council meeting.

"We call on the Rugby Football League to re-examine Leigh's application in light of their excellent performances throughout the 1999-2000 season and the strength of support for the club with average crowds above some of their Super League counterparts."
