BLACKROD'S Alan Harrison and David Aldred refused to lie down and die as Atherton went in for the kill.
Atherton's opening total of 250-3, in which pro Andrew Hall hit a magnificent unbeaten 109, Jonathan Hyde 64 and Philip Wakefield 43 not out, was well out of Blackrod's reach and the visitors looked destined for defeat when their ninth wicket fell with eight overs remaining.
But try as they might, the Atherton attack just could not shift captain Harrison and Aldred who hung on to earn their side a draw with 146-9, opener Mike Westhead top scoring with 34.
