It's make or break time for Bolton's colourful collection of trialists tonight when Wanderers complete their Danish pre-season tour against Odense.

And unless the continental assortments impress manager Sam Allardyce they can forget any chance of a permanent contract at the Reebok Stadium.

A llardyce was embarrassed and shell-shocked by Bolton's 6-0 defeat against Lyngby on Saturday. And he has made it clear it's last chance saloon for the newcomers, including German international Matthias Hagner and Nottingham Forest stalwart Ian Woan.

Allardyce pulled no punches last night after taking stock for 24 hours of the mauling by Claus Jensen's former club.

"Hand on heart it's disappointing to say that there hasn't been anyone who has shown in the last two games that they may secure a future place in the squad, " he told the BEN.

"But there's one game to go and if you don't look, you don't find. However, with the background and CV's of the likes of Ian Woan, Rob Maas and Matthias Hagner I would have expected them to have shown a little more.

"The individual CV's are impressive. But that was in the past. It's the present or the future that counts now in terms of their football careers."

Allardyce had hoped the Danish trip would yield at least one or two signings to supplement the majority of his squad left behind in the UK.

But with only the Odense game to go he could return home empty handed. Dutchman Maas has looked the most consistent of the trialists while Woan did little to catch the eye after an encouraging start against Brondby last Wednesday.

Big things were expected of Borussia Munchengladbach midfielder Hagner but he too never looked happy against an inventive and enthusiastic Lyngby outfit.

Striker Alphonse Tchami can forget any hopes of a Nationwide League career though it was hard to judge Scottish Under 21 international David Graham on just 45 minutes.

"The fact of throwing a team together against that quality of opposition was probably too much," added Allardyce. "But that's no excuse for that type of result.

"In terms of the facilities and the quality of the opposition, it's been a fantastic trip. But in terms of finding a player to bring into the club-at this stage and in the aftermath of a 6-0 defeat-the trip has been very disappointing."

Several of the players complained of feeling heavy-legged after gruelling training sessions during matches. As a result, they will do only light work ahead of the Odense fixture.

"Hopefully that will give them a bit more strength and more stamina to show what they can do."

Jensen, so disappointed to miss the match against his old team, and Gudni Bergsson are expected to return after four days to recover from minor injuries.

There was a chance another German, Oliver Heldt, playing this evening. But Heldt was only on the bench for Schalke on Saturday when they drew 0-0 at Brondby and Allardyce won't pursue his interest.
