TODAY is gonna be the day Oasis take to the stage at the Reebok Stadium.

After months of hype Noel and Liam Gallagher will join together for the first of two huge concerts -- the largest to have ever taken place in Bolton. Preparations at the stadium have been under way all week to ensure that the concerts will go ahead with a bang. The whole of the South Stand has been filled with an enormous stage complete with a large video screen.

And steps have been taken to ensure that the 70,000 fans due to descend on Horwich will be well catered for in terms of food and drink.

The concert follows the much publicised split between Liam and his wife Patsy Kensit which many feared would see the Reebok concerts fall through.

But indications are that they will go ahead as planned. The doors open at 3.30pm in preparation for support band Johnny Marr's healers to take to the stage for 5.30pm.

Little Hulton's very own inimitable Shaun Ryder will perform with the re-formed Happy Mondays in readiness for the main attraction at 8.30pm.

The concerts are tipped to be the first of many for the town as the Reebok bids to topple Wembley, Maine Road and Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium as the premier concert location.

Tickets for the gig sold out within hours.

Nigel Ball, project manager at the Reebok for the Oasis concerts, said: "These concerts will hopefully be the start of big things for the stadium and the town.

"We want the Reebok to be a top venue for bands."

There have been some concerns voiced that the fans will cause trouble but the police told the BEN they were not envisaging any problems.

Detective Inspector Dave Wolstenholme said: "Extra police will be on hand over the weekend to deal with additional traffic and to ensure that concert goers have an enjoyable time.

"It's a huge event for Bolton and we are confident it will pass peacefully."
