EMMERDALE star Glenn Lamont will make a guest appearance at Adlington carnival -- less than a week before he marries his own local carnival queen.

Glenn, who plays computer whizz Richie Carter in the popular soap, is due to wed Cheryl Hackett from Bolton on August 19.

The couple met six years ago when Cheryl, whose parents still live in Mayfair, Horwich, moved to Leeds to go to university.

But before they wed in Harrogate, Glenn's presence on August 13 will be one of a host of crowd draws at the popular carnival in the town's Jubilee playing fields.

Former Bullseye host Jim Bowen will be getting the two-day festivities off to a flying start when he crowns the carnival queen on August 12.

Crowds of up to 25,000 are expected for a 30 year old event which has become the largest independently-run carnival in the country.

The carnival weekend kicks off with a parade of up to 120 floats departing from Park Road.

Carnival committee member Colin Prescott said: "It's an extremely popular event but it's still something a lot of people

Other attractions include the dramatically-named Jake Semtex's display of motorbike stunts and pyrotechnics, morris dancing competition and novelty dog show with categories such as dog that looks the most like its owner.
