A CHIP shop with a difference is due to appear in Bolton.
From July 16-19, a National Canine Defence League roadshow will be offering dog owners on-the-spot microchipping for their pets. The "chip shop" is part of its "Give a Dog a Life" campaign and will offer microchipping at the subsidised rate of £9.50.
Microchipping is a painless but permanent way of identifying a dog. It takes just seconds and involves inserting the chip (the size of a grain of rice) into the loose skin at the back of the neck. It means that if the dog is lost it can be returned easily to its owner.
Penny Judd, head of the campaign says: "Microchipping is a simple procedure that could save your dog's life."
The roadshow will be at Moss Bank Park, Bolton, 12-4pm tomorrow, Safeway's car park, Breightmet, 10am -4pm on Monday, and the pedestrianised area on Brackley Street, Farnworth, 10am-4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
