PUBLIC service used to mean "what can I do for my country?" Now it seems (for some MPs) to mean "what can I do for myself?"
Bolton West MP Ruth Kelly once again whinges on about her working conditions (end all-night sessions -- BEN July 11), rather than take care of the interests of her hard-working constituents who, as tax payers, subsidise her very privileged lifestyle.
It hasn't occurred to her that millions of ordinary people who work long and arduous hours (including nights and weekends) for low pay and high taxation without the benefits of her very long holidays, just might object to her attitude!
If Ruth Kelly took the job seriously the occasional night sitting wouldn't bother her. But, then like the rest of the so-called "Blair Babes", she prefers a full-time salary for part-time work.
No, she is obviously under-employed as an MP, having had three babies in the three years since election. Hopefully, after next year's General Election, she'll be able to devote her time to her children (courtesy of Bolton West's electors).
