A H Coles's letter on July 1 concerning hedgehogs reminded of a day I was in the garden collecting up all the cuttings.

When I came to tie the bin bag up I saw something move inside. Tucked in the side of the bag was a baby hedgehog wrapped up tightly. I left the bag open for a few days and even threw some food in for it. It came out at night and had a walk round the garden and back into the bag in the day.

We used to leave out cat food on a saucer and we would find the hedgehog stood on the dish lapping it up. In the end the bag started to smell so I had to cut a hole in the bag to let the hedgehog out. My three-year-old son was fascinated. A few days later it disappeared.
