music madness is due to hit Chorley at the end of the month when the BBC Music Live Millennium celebrations spin in to town.

The 11-hour music extravaganza, hosted by Kush Music Development Group, will take place on Saturday, May 27.

The event, called In The Mix 2000, will get on track with a free five-hour showcase at Chorley Town Hall, starting at 2pm.

This will feature some of South Ribble's finest bands and musical artistes who have been selected through a competition run by KMDG.

The evening entertainment begins at 8pm with a dance music spectacular involving DJs and dance music producers from across the area.

In The Mix 2000 has been funded by the council and the National Lottery Arts Fund and is seen as a credible investment into the development of local bands and artistes. Leo Jones, of KMDG, said: "Talent is in desperate need of being cultivated in this area. There are bands and artists who live in the surrounding region who could develop successful careers if given the chance.

"We intend to give the best artists a break, and we're starting with In The Mix 2000. It's not everyday that the people of Chorley get an event which is part of a national BBC-supported activity on the doorstep."

Mr Jones explained the amount of preparation that has gone into the event.

"We've been planning and organising this event over a period of six months. Our intention has been to produce a unique and very special event which caters for all musical tastes."
