TWO pals will soon be leaving Bolton for a new life in Surrey.

Moss and Jess are border collies who have been living at the Destitute Animal Shelter in Northolt Drive.

But they are heading for a border collie rescue association where they will get the stimulation they so vitally need.

Shelter manager Neil Martin explained: "Many people buy border collies because they look cute. But they are not furry ornaments.

"They need to be working in some capacity. Border collies are happiest when they are out with a shepherd, they need the stimulation.

"They can also be used for other sports but it's vital they are kept active and busy." Moss and Jess have been suffering from behavioural problems because they haven't been getting the kind of exercise they need.

Moss has been at the shelter for 18 months and is its longest serving resident. Jess has been there five months.

Now they are moving to Surrey and will retrained for "work of one kind or another" explained Neil, although it will not be guard dog work.

Moss is three-years-old and Jess is two. Neil said: "They are going to be so much happier than they have been here in Bolton. A kennel is not the right place for these dogs and they would not be suitable to live as family pets."
