A MOTHER and her four-year-old daughter are recovering in hospital today from suspected drugs overdoses after being found semi-conscious.

The two were discovered in a bedroom of a house in Harwood yesterday at 12.25pm, by the youngster's grandfather who had returned from a shopping trip.

He desperately tried to revive his daughter and grandaughter before making a 999 call to ambulance paramedics who gave emergency first aid at the scene before the couple were transferred to the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The grandfather managed to wake the woman, a single mother in her 20s, who confirmed she had taken a large number of tablets.

Today a senior police spokesman said the child had also been given tablets and added: "At this stage we have not decided whether any criminal charges will be brought against this woman."

The mum and daughter are both recovering in the Royal Bolton Hospital where a spokesman said they are making satisfactory progress.

It is understood the woman and her daughter had recently moved back to her parent's house in Harwood. Social Service officers, members of Bolton Police's Family Support Unit and detectives from Astley Bridge police station were due to meet today to discuss the case later today.
