ORGANISERS of a Bolton town centre fun fair intend to transport revellers back in time - by reducing the cost of rides to 1900 prices.

The move by Bolton New Year Fun Fair, in Cheadle Square, aims to celebrate the end of the century by matching the 10p ticket prices of Victorian times.

It means youngsters can enjoy all the fun of the fair on New Years Eve - with rides such as Side Kick, Thriller Express and the more traditional Waltzers and Dodgems - without costing their parents a small fortune.

John Silcock, a spokesman for The Showmen's Guild, which will stage the event, said: "It's Millennium madness and we probably won't make a penny out of it. But if people have fun that's all that matters."

The fair has been visiting Bolton town centre since the turn of the century. It runs until January 8, opening from 11am to 9.30pm.

Mr Silcock added: "Hopefully people will stick around until the evening when a spectacular fireworks display will see in the year 2000."
